Purpose:
The Corporate Underwriting Manager is responsible for overseeing the company’s Underwriting Management Ecosystem to ensure portfolio optimization and quality assurance thereby enabling the company to operate within its underwriting risk appetite while effectively navigating market cycles. This role leverages strategic risk management to build resiliency into the portfolio resulting in intelligent growth and sustainable profitability thereby meeting the expectation of Underwriting Excellence.
This position plays a critical role in exercising underwriting discipline during shifting market conditions, and ensuring delegated underwriting authority is exercised consistently, appropriately, and within defined risk tolerances.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
Underwriting Management
- Maintain and oversee the company’s Underwriting Management Ecosystem, including:
- Referral requirements to manage the portfolio
- Underwriting strategies for target portfolio
- Delegated Underwriting Authority/Delegated Authority consultations and reviews
- Positioning the company to adhere to Munich RE and GSI underwriting guidelines
- Utilize predictive analytics to identify and resolve potential financial risks, threats or opportunities to proactively capitalize on and/or mitigate underwriting risk in order to anticipate and respond to changing market conditions.
- Ensure the companywide Underwriting Strategy remains current and reflective of the organization’s underwriting risk appetite
Delegated Authority & Large Deal Oversight
- Review output from Delegated Underwriting Authority (DUA) and Account Reviews to ensure underwriting decisions are aligned with business objectives.
- Oversee and/or conduct annual Large Deal Referral analyses
Required Technical Skills:
- Underwriting portfolio and exposure analysis
- Delegated Underwriting Authority governance and review execution
- Advanced data analysis and modeling analytics
- Process design, Standards development, and documentation methods.
Education, Certification, & Designations:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business, Risk Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 7+ years of experience in underwriting, underwriting governance, risk management, or related insurance roles
- Demonstrated experience partnering cross-functionally and influencing outcomes without direct authority.
- Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
