FAQ

What are the key differences between working in reinsurance versus primary insurance?

Reinsurance is essentially “insurance for insurers.” While primary insurers work directly with individuals and businesses, reinsurers help those insurers manage their risk. A career in reinsurance offers exposure to comprehensive risk strategy, advanced data analytics, and long-term client partnerships that shape the future of the industry.

What strategies can I use to stand out as a qualified candidate without traditional job experience?

Leverage transferable skills: Highlight what you’ve gained from coursework, group projects, volunteering, or extracurriculars - they all count.

Upskill proactively: Online courses or certifications (LinkedIn Learning, Coursera, Google, etc.) demonstrate initiative and build technical depth.

Network intentionally: Attend career fairs, employer info sessions, and campus events - and don’t hesitate to reach out to our campus team to learn more.

What does a successful candidate look like at Munich Re?

There’s no single profile for success. Our student hires combine technical curiosity, problem-solving ability, and a growth mindset. We value authenticity — your individuality is part of what makes you stand out.

How do I prepare for my one-way interview (Spark Hire)?

Set up your space: Ensure good lighting, sound, and a stable connection.
Bring your best self: Dress as you would for an in-person interview and speak confidently to the camera in an engaging manner.
Practice, practice, practice: Review common questions, but focus on clear, genuine responses that reflect your interest and personality. This one-way interview is for the campus team to get to know you and your interest in joining Munich Re.

How does Munich Re support early career growth?

Interns gain real-world experience alongside industry leaders and are encouraged to connect across teams, join social events, and grow their professional network. Those who excel are often considered for return internships or full-time opportunities upon graduation.
