Primary Objectives

The successful candidate will possess strong Business Systems Analyst experience within the Canadian insurance industry, with the ability to bridge business needs and technology delivery across policy administration, underwriting, claims, finance, engineering, inspections, data integrations, and vendor implementations.
The role requires systems-level analysis, clear functional and technical documentation, SQL-based data validation, and effective collaboration with business stakeholders, architects, developers, QA teams, operations teams, and vendor partners.


Job Responsibilities

1. Business Systems Analysis & Requirements Management

  • Elicit, analyze, document, and validate business, functional, non-functional, data, integration, and reporting requirements from stakeholders.
  • Conduct workshops, interviews, and requirements elicitation sessions.
  • Create and maintain BRDs, user stories, use cases, acceptance criteria, process flows, data flow diagrams, interface specifications, and traceability matrices.
  • Translate business needs into clear system requirements and solution-ready specifications for technology delivery teams.
  • Perform impact analysis for proposed changes and enhancements.
  • Ensure traceability of requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assess current-state and target-state systems, data flows, integration points, controls, and operational impacts across insurance platforms.
  • Experience working within Agile and Waterfall environments.

2. Canadian Insurance Domain Expertise

  • Analyze and support business processes related to:
    • Policy Administration
    • Claims Management
    • Underwriting
    • Billing and Payments
    • Renewals and Endorsements
    • Insurance Product Configuration
  • Work closely with business users to improve operational efficiency.
  • Support Canadian regulatory, compliance, privacy, audit, and operational risk initiatives affecting insurance products, processes, data, and technology controls.
  • Understand Canadian P&C insurance, specialty insurance, and reinsurance, including:
    • Policy lifecycle
    • Claims lifecycle
    • Underwriting rules
    • Billing processes
    • Renewals and endorsements
    • Broker and customer servicing models

3. Data, Systems & Integration Analysis

  • Write and interpret SQL queries for data analysis, validation, reconciliation, root-cause analysis, and operational reporting.
  • Analyze large datasets to identify trends, anomalies, and business insights.
  • Work with database teams to review stored procedures, packages, triggers, functions, and views.
  • Validate data migration, data mapping, conversion, transformation, and reconciliation activities across source and target systems.
  • Support UAT, SIT, production issue investigations, defect triage, and data-related incident analysis using SQL, logs, interface files, and system documentation.
  • Analyze APIs, batch processes, message flows, data feeds, reference data, and downstream reporting impacts related to system changes.

4. Application & Technical Collaboration

  • Collaborate with development teams on system and data-related projects.
  • Understand application architecture and integration points.
  • Participate in solution design discussions and provide functional input.
  • Review technical designs to ensure alignment with business requirements.
  • Coordinate with developers, architects, QA teams, and project managers.

5. Delivery, Testing & Quality Assurance

  • Define and review test scenarios, test cases, acceptance criteria, expected results, and regression coverage based on business and system requirements.
  • Support SIT, UAT, and regression testing activities.
  • Perform requirements validation and defect triage.
  • Ensure delivered solutions meet business expectations, system design intent, data quality standards, Canadian regulatory obligations, and operational readiness requirements.

6. Stakeholder Management

  • Act as a liaison between business users and technical teams.
  • Conduct project status meetings and requirements walkthroughs.
  • Present findings, recommendations, and business cases to senior stakeholders.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and proactively address business concerns.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst, Systems Analyst, or technically oriented Business Analyst.
  • 3 to 5+ years of experience within the Canadian insurance industry or a closely related regulated financial services environment.
  • Proven experience supporting large-scale system implementations, modernization initiatives, integrations, migrations, enhancements, or vendor platform projects.
  • Strong Canadian insurance domain knowledge.

Technical & Systems Skills

  • Experience with data mapping, interface specifications, source-to-target mapping, data lineage, and business rules documentation.
  • Strong SQL expertise for data analysis, validation, reconciliation, troubleshooting, and reporting.
  • Experience querying databases.
  • Knowledge of stored procedures, packages, triggers, and views.
  • Understanding of application architecture, web applications, APIs, integration patterns, batch processing, data models, and enterprise system design.
  • Knowledge of REST APIs, SOAP services, file-based integrations, messaging platforms, and system-to-system data exchanges.

  • Insurance platforms and core systems such as Guidewire, Duck Creek, PolicyCenter, ClaimCenter, BillingCenter, or similar policy, claims, billing, underwriting, and reinsurance platforms

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Guidewire, Duck Creek, PolicyCenter, ClaimCenter, BillingCenter, or similar Canadian insurance platforms.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms, data warehouses, enterprise reporting solutions, document management systems, workflow platforms, and integration technologies.
  • Experience with API integrations and microservices architecture.
  • CBAP, CCBA, PMP, or Agile certifications.
  • Prior experience working with distributed or offshore teams.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications in Business Analysis, Business Systems Analysis, Insurance, Agile methodologies, or technology delivery are preferred.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Knowledge of ETL processes.
  • Experience with reporting tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Exposure to DevOps and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience working with microservices and event-driven architectures.
  • Basic understanding of XML, JSON, and XSD schemas.

Our base salary range for this role is between $119,000 and $139,000 per year, plus an opportunity for an annual company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. The salary estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for candidates hired in this position. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have, and comparison to internal equity.
