This is a specialist-level position within HSB’s Corporate Safety Department for an individual holding a BS and preferably additional safety education or designations or with comparable field experience as it relates to the development or betterment of a safety program.  The prime responsibility is to assist the Director of Global Safety in managing the Corporate Safety Program.

Education and Experience:

  • BS in Industrial Safety or related field or comparable work experience.
  • Certified OSHA 500 and 501 instructor, Certified Defensive Driving Instructor, and preferably an Associate Safety Professional or Certified Safety Professional designation.
  • Ten+ years working experience in an industrial setting. 
  • Working experience with OSHA regulations; additional regulatory/industry affiliated bodies preferred.
  • Experience to include international safety, confined space entry of boilers and/or pressure vessels, contract management, fleet and exposure control.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong presentation skills including ability to build training presentations and work with international audiences
  • Analyze local and industry safety trends for the purpose of adjusting internal safety programs to meet new threats
  • Computer literacy; experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, Power Point and new technologies as needed for the job.
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise and informative written communications.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team to develop and deliver safety programs and trainings.
  • Willingness to travel extensively, including international destinations
  • Excellent customer service skills demonstrated by listening, taking ownership, following up and providing positive customer interaction with global clients
  • Team-player with the ability to work well with others, internally and externally.
  • Detail oriented as demonstrated by understanding and tracking program compliance documentation, thoroughly researching safety issues, following applicable procedures, proper follow-up, also knowing when to escalate critical open or unresolved issues.
  • Problem solving skills (assess, recommend, select and implement) with manager support.
  • Work with the team to suggest program and process improvements and document recommendations with manager’s approval.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks of a more complex nature without interrupting normal work processes or impacting quality of results.
