Primary Objectives:

The AVP, Systems & Data Transformation is a critical leadership role responsible for driving HSB Canada’s digital, systems, and data transformation agenda. The objective of this role is to design and execute a multi-year digital and data strategy, modernize core platforms, advance cloud and automation initiatives, and establish strong enterprise data governance. The AVP works closely with business leaders, IT, and global partners to deliver scalable, customer-centric solutions, ensure effective data utilization, and support organizational growth through innovative digital capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Digital & Data Strategy:

-Develop and execute a comprehensive multi-year digital, systems, and data strategy aligned with regional and global objectives.

-Establish enterprise data strategy for the collection, aggregation, governance, and utilization of internal and external data.

-Collaborate with global partners to expand digital service offerings and deploy predictive analytics to support business decision-making.

-Develop roadmaps for customer-centric digital products and solutions.

  • Core Platform & Systems Transformation:

-Lead the transformation of multiple core systems platforms, including several Guidewire implementations.

-Ensure the data strategy is fully enabled through next-generation platforms.

-Oversee delivery to scope, timelines, and budget requirements.

-Implement strong change management processes to ensure smooth transitions for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Cloud Modernization & Automation:

- Lead initiatives focused on cloud migration, automation, digitization, and intelligent solutions.

-Partner with IT to design and implement optimal technology solutions for defined business use cases.

-Provide guidance and mentorship to development teams to build cloud competencies and deliver measurable ROI.

  • Enterprise Planning & Leadership:

-Lead annual and multi-year planning for systems and data initiatives, aligned with HSB Canada, GSI, and Munich Re priorities.

-Manage technical initiative budgets and resource planning.

-Communicate transformation progress and key updates to the Executive Steering Committee and senior leadership.

-Serve as a senior subject matter expert for data and systems, supporting leaders across the organization.

  • Governance & Continuous Improvement

- Establish, implement, and govern enterprise-wide data standards and data governance frameworks.

-Own developed digital solutions and services, ensuring appropriate maintenance, enhancement, and long-term sustainability.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Technology, Data, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7–10+ years leading major digital, systems, and data transformation initiatives in large organizations, including core platform and Guidewire implementations.
  • 5–7+ years of managerial experience with a proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams and strategic partnerships.
  • Experience in data-intensive industries such as insurance, reinsurance, or banking (preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of insurance operations—ideally specialty insurance—and enterprise systems transformation.
  • Expertise in Azure cloud services, cloud migration, data governance, and data-centric technologies.
  • Strong strategic thinking, business acumen, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to operate effectively in both strategic and hands-on capacities, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
