Underwriting Excellence Specialist
Ensures approved underwriting strategies and protocols are effectively implemented across the enterprise in conjunction with the senior leader. With direction, researches, develop, maintain, and communicate underwriting standards, methods, processes, and best practices, for underwriters, product managers and underwriting management for assigned product(s) and distribution methods globally. This includes Transactional and Portfolio and Strategic Products, Treaty, CAD, HSB Canada and UK.
Monitors market, legal, technological & environmental issues and trends and provides input to product team to help drive product enhancements and adjustments to guarantee profitable underwriting.
Consults and collaborates with Munich corporate underwriting and other HSB departments on issues impacting underwriting and recommends actions and adjustments.
Participates in Self Audits with business groups and Focused Underwriting reviews in order to identify the degree to which underwriting strategy and standards have been implemented and executed.
Education and Experience
- Bachelors Degree in Insurance, Business Administration, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering or related field or equivalent work experience .
- Property and Casualty experience is desirable.
- 5 years experience in underwriting, or underwriting support, within the insurance industry Experience in complex organizations preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong understanding of commercial and personal lines insurance and reinsurance coverage, concepts, principles, exposures and processes to drive profitable results
- Knowledge of property, equipment breakdown, cyber, identity theft and inland marine products & engineering services and general property insurance concepts
- Action oriented with strong analytical, innovation and persuasion skills to influence change.
- Naturally curious and inquisitive to identify issues and solve problems. Resourceful in order to research issues, assemble support, and recommend creative solutions to underwriting issues.
- Understands the organization’s structure and exhibits a high degree of courage to influence stakeholders, manage conflict, recommend, and implement underwriting improvements.
- Familiarity with data driven decision making. Manages complexity and ambiguity with the ability to translate complicated concepts into pragmatic solutions and guidelines for the business.
- Strong project management skills to manage multiple concurrent projects and issues.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
