Green Solutions is part of MRS-GM and is a global business providing insurance to the Renewable Energy, Clean Technology, and Carbon Market & Natural Capital sectors. The CM&NC team provides insurance to the carbon market, forestry, and agriculture sectors, with colleagues in Munich, London, and Singapore.

We seek a Forestry Underwriter to join the Green Solutions’ CM&NC team, working with us on a full-time basis, based in Munich. 

Your job:

  • Underwriting forestry insurance business, where you will maintain, develop and grow this business. You will exercise judgment in all underwriting matters, taking responsibility across the full underwriting process, and ensuring profitability.
  • Assess, price, negotiate and underwrite insurance for the forestry sector.
  • Ensure timely service to clients and brokers, demonstrating care for customers and respect for the regulatory obligations & reputation of the firm.
  • Manage and optimise the portfolio, prudently balancing risk and profitability, making informed decisions in line with the business's risk appetite and strategic objectives.
  • Contribute to the continuing development of the relevant models, tools and procedures for pricing, risk analysis, and portfolio risk management.
  • Conduct and develop effective business relationships with clients and brokers with a view to both securing new business and retaining existing business.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in the sector. Use this to inform the continued development and growth of the forestry business.
  • Stay abreast of changes and developments in the forestry industry and related insurance sector. Leverage insights to adapt strategies to achieve and maintain a competitive edge.
  • Provide underwriting support to the senior underwriter of our agricultural insurance business.
  • Contribute to the underwriting of forestry-related risks to nature-based projects in the carbon markets.

Your profile:

  • Experience (5+ years) in the insurance industry as a underwriter, with expertise in forestry and/or agriculture risks or equivalent experience in the commercial forestry and/or agriculture sectors, with expertise in risk evaluation and risk management.
  • An academic degree in forestry and/or agriculture; else in mathematics, science, geography, economics, finance; or a comparable education.
  • Experience in product development and project management.
  • Strong analytical skills, with proven ability to handle and evaluate complex data sets. Strong geospatial analysis capability is an advantage.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • A versatile and dynamic team member, able to combine proactive self-direction with effective collaboration.
