Role: Senior Accountant – Financial Reporting

Location: Manchester / Birkenhead (2 days per week in the office)

Job Purpose:

The focus of the Senior Accountant role is to assist in the preparation and reporting of high-quality financial information, including undertaking and being accountable for various key financial processes.

Additionally, the role holder will support and drive continuous improvement initiatives, including automation, in addition to enhancing the control environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Potential management of a small team to lead, develop and mentor.
  • Contribution to the month and quarter close process in line with company policies and timetables.
  • Create and maintain relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Ownership of key month end and quarter end deliverables, for example a subset of the tasks below depending on the team:
    • Monthly affiliate pack submitted to HSB IIC, including cash flow.
    • Quarterly reporting to Munich Re (incl. IFRS17).
    • Oversight of balance sheets, ensuring understanding and control of balances.
    • Investment reporting, working alongside investment managers and oversight of cash management.
    • Tax balances, including calculating and posting of corporation tax estimates, and completion of Insurance Premium Tax and VAT returns.
    • Working cross-function to set IBNR reserves and manage reinsurance recoveries/treaty costs.
    • Solvency II reporting.
    • Annual statutory accounts
    • Production of insightful financial analysis, including expense analysis and supporting the planning and forecasting process.
  • Provide financial support and respond to ad-hoc requests from key stakeholders across the HSB and Munich Re group.
  • Represent finance on carious current and future projects relation to both the team and wider business.
  • Adhering to robust and compliant accounting processes to ensure accurate reporting of both P&L and Balance sheet.
  • Commitment to personal development in order to meet both current and future requirements of the business.

Key Skills & Experience:

Essential

  • Self-motivated
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills
  • Identification and drive of continuous improvement activities
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent MS Excel knowledge (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables etc).

Desirable

  • Experience of working within the Insurance and/or Engineering industry.

  • Initiative: Innovative approach to problem solving, anticipating opportunities and the ability to question/challenge existing methods and approaches.

  • Ability and willingness to work flexibly and across locations, where deadlines require, within the Company’s required operating hours.

Qualifications & Educations Requirements:

  • Qualified Accountant (passed finalist) – CIMA, ACA, ACCA
