Business Unit CFO
The Vice President, Financial Planning & Analysis Business Partner serves as a lead financial advisor and advocate to our Custom Risk Solutions (CRS). The VP FP&A Business Partner is a strategic senior advisor to the President of CRS and has oversight of the Business Performance and Data & Analytics functions supporting CRS.
Develops and supports the division’s pricing strategies and specialized financial solutions, takes the lead on strategic transactions and has accountability for monitoring performance of existing books of business. Role will provide strategic and operational decision making through analytics and related insights that drive better decision-making and performance outcomes.
This important role will develop, implement, and maintain targeted efforts to ensure the financial stability and viability of the business bringing a strong analytical approach to the business operation as well as strategies around deal modeling, and new products and distribution opportunities.
This role will also have significant financial and operational reporting responsibilities and interaction with senior leadership across HSB and other Global Munich Re entities.
This position will also coordinate with finance and operations to execute on business strategies.
Although this position reports directly to the SVP Financial Planning & Analysis, the position will be a key member of the CRS senior leadership team with a strong dotted line to the President of CRS.
Education and Experience:
- A bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting or Investments or related field is required or equivalent work experience
- Master’s degree in Finance / MBA/CFA preferred
- Finance business consulting experience, startup technology business is a plus
- 20+ years Finance and business industry experience
- 10+ years leadership experience managing cross functional teams and influencing senior management
- Prior leadership and management experience required – a well-rounded background, showing breadth of business experience and steady promotion through increasing responsibilities
- Anticipates needs of the customer and takes a proactive approach to ensure they are met
- Hires and develops the right people to provide the business unit support necessary

- Strong financial acumen
- Ability to translate financial results into business story
- Business strategy development
- A natural ability to quickly integrate financial data and analysis from various disciplines into meaningful information that drives management decisions
- Results orientated and pragmatic management approach that is continuously focused on execution and problem solving while balancing speed and accuracy
- Knowledge of general industry and insurance concepts
- Demonstrates the capabilities to understand HSB’s operations, business strategies, and vision.
- Broad financial exposure to reporting, analysis, tax, treasury, product and investments.
- Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses
- High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation
- Strong people management skills, effective at coaching and motivating staff. Serves as a role model in building effective relationships
- Excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to lead discussions
- Strong negotiation skills and excellent organizational skills
- Proven strategic thinking, at both the organizational and corporate level.
- Effective problem solver, who anticipates issues, and seeks out and analyzes information collaboratively to propose solutions. Ability to get out in front of a unit’s performance issue, be accountable, and drive accountability within the unit.

- Effectively and creatively utilizes all resources (systems, people, etc.) to manage daily operations
