Munich Re Specialty Global Markets North America (MRSGM N.A.) is looking for enthusiastic individuals to join us as we grow. As part of Munich Re Group, we are a unique organization providing expertise in specialty and marine lines of insurance as well as surety risks and customs bonds with in-house claims solutions.

We are seeking a full time VP, Underwriting Services,to join the Shared Services division as a hybrid employee in our Schaumburg, IL office reporting to the Chief Operating Officer.

You will play a critical leadership role in supporting MRSGM N.A.’s growing portfolio across Marine and Specialty lines. You will lead a high-performing team, ensuring operational excellence, cross-functional alignment, and a future-ready workforce to meet underwriting demands. Prior Specialty Insurance experience in Underwriting or Operations is strongly preferred.

This role offers the opportunity to shape the strategic vision for underwriting operations while working closely with key internal stakeholders including Underwriting, Claims, Finance, Actuarial, and IT.

Job Profile

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead and manage Line of Business (LOB) Operations Managers, Product Support and Underwriting Assistants.
  • Hire, onboard, mentor, and develop team members.
  • Drive succession planning and talent pipeline development.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, learning, and performance.

Strategic Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as senior liaison between underwriting and internal stakeholders (Finance, Actuary, Product, etc.).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support premium planning, profitability, and operational alignment.

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee and enforce standardized underwriting practices and procedures.
  • Monitor and improve quality, productivity, and turnaround times.
  • Lead the development of standardized workflows and procedural documentation.
  • Ensure efficient capacity management and resource utilization.

Data & Performance Analysis

  • Monitor underwriting portfolio performance and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Analyze trends, generate reports, and use insights to drive decision-making.
  • Oversee responses to complex data inquiries and investigations.

Change Management & Process Improvement Identify

  • Lead, and implement continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with stakeholders for tool implementation and change management.
  • Develop and manage audit/QA processes to ensure compliance with guidelines.

Budget & Strategic Planning

  • Develop and manage departmental budget aligned with business objectives.
  • Reinforce and contribute to broader business strategy with manager oversight.

MRSGM N.A. is open to considering candidates in numerous locations, including Schaumburg, IL. The salary range posted below applies to the Company’s Schaumburg, IL location. The base salary range anticipated for this position is $140,000 to $180,000. In addition, the Company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, 401k match, paid holidays, sick time, and paid vacation. The salary estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for candidates hired in this position in Schaumburg, IL. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.

MRSGM N.A. is the holding company for Roanoke Insurance Group (RIG) and Munich Re Specialty Group Insurance Services (SIS) located throughout 7 locations in the United States and Canada with over 250 employees.

SIS provides insurance to retail and wholesale insurance brokers in North America. Specialty lines include ocean and inland marine, cyber, tech E&O, terrorism, active assailant & political violence.

RIG operates as a specialty insurance broker focused on surety, insurance and related offerings for logistics service providers, customs brokers and companies with supply chains.
