Managing Director, MRS-Global Markets, UK & Ireland

  • Overall responsibility for growing MRS-GM’s presence in the Irish market
  • Ensure that MRS-GM employs effective underwriting and distribution teams that support and comply with the business plan for Ireland and that Line of Business are profitably underwritten
  • To generate maximum return on investment for MRS-GM while maintaining our reputation and integrity, demonstrating care for clients and respect for our regulatory obligations

Responsibility

General Responsibility

  • In close collaboration with the CEO MRS-GM Europe and other Senior Management, create and execute a comprehensive, scalable and sustainable strategy for the Irish market, growing the business to EUR ~50m in 5 years (from today’s ca. EUR 15m)
  • Further strengthen existing and explore new relationships with global, regional and local brokers to drive business inflow
  • Further develop and grow our “boots on the ground” – develop the existing local team and build further underwriting and distribution bench-strength as required
  • Further develop and refine the existing operating model in terms of scalability and efficiency, in line with our wider European setup
  • Proactively engage with all stakeholders internationally and in Munich to ensure that all UW and business best practices are known and applied

Leadership: 

  • Embodying the brand of MRS-GM, be the face and voice of business in Ireland
  • Recruit, lead and motivate staff to execute our Irish business strategy
  • Support staff development by objective-setting via a continuous conversations approach.  
  • Co-ordinate and manage underwriting and distribution teams to achieve business objectives and targets, ensuring that they fulfil operational and regulatory requirements
  • As part of our European setup, ensure knowledge-sharing and industry best practice to further develop our underwriting capabilities and the knowledge of our staff 

Business development:

  • Further strengthen existing and explore new relationships with global, regional and local brokers, key clients and Great Lakes to secure new and renewal business
  • Conduct and develop effective relationships with local and regional market peers, to keep abreast of market developments that may affect our business effectiveness;
  • Produce management reports on a regular basis
  • Ensure that company procedures and systems are followed and maintained, as per procedures and compliance manuals;
  • Conduct peer review, ensuring compliance with the business plan and adherence to authority limits.
  • Help drive good conduct for the business to deliver the best outcomes for clients.

Skills & Experiences Required

  • Extensive, proven experience as a successful business leader in the primary insurance industry, with a sustained record of business development execution, in particular of delivering results internally and value to clients.
  • An influential business leader, well-connected and highly regarded within the Irish insurance market with an existing portfolio of strong broker relationships.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills within a regulated financial services business to become the approved person in the role.
  • Entrepreneurial, can-do attitude, naturally curious about “what’s next”
  • Strong market awareness, implementing innovative changes that impact our business positively
  • Ability to develop and articulate strategic plans to gain and maintain market share, and to inspire teams to achieve ambitious goals.
  • Ability to gain credibility with senior individuals, through technical and business leadership combined with professional integrity, both within and outside of the company.
  • A multicultural and international mindset with excellent people, change and conflict management skills, and strong emotional intelligence - this person will be the “glue” that holds the Irish operation together (and be the face of it)
  • Solution-oriented and commercial – “how can we make this work” rather than “I have to follow procedure”
  • Ability to consistently exercise sound judgment and solve complex problems through a combination of analysis, wisdom, judgment, and experience.
  • Fluent in English, written and spoken – other European languages are a plus
  • University Degree and/or relevant professional qualification
