Application Specialist - API

The candidate will be responsible for producing various product tools for products that comprise the CRS product portfolio - Equipment Breakdown, Renewable Energy and Cyber Insurance.
The Application Specialist will collaborate with other CRS team members, IT staff, Global Corporate Underwriting staff and members of the CRS Financial Solutions team to support application tools that will ensure Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and profitability targets are met.
Job Duties:
- Manages the design, implementation and adoption of updated business processes (including associated change management activities) that support transactional excellence, client engagement, operational efficiency, and ultimately profitable growth in HSB’s transactional insurance business.
- This is a business enablement role that is positioned to expand our capacity for Digital distribution, maintenance and client integrations. This role will partner with existing application owner resources but will have more direct focus in this discipline.
- The successful individual will support and maintain the catalog of APIs and integrations using industry standard protocols and technologies. This role will be responsible for crafting the digital needs to our internal teams focused in API development but will also work directly with our client company partners to facilitate integration and troubleshooting for our API integrations.
- The role will also be responsible for creating and maintaining internal API connections to facilitate automated underwriting outcomes. Must have ability to understand and deliver the value of HSB products, technical architecture, and solutions.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Computer Science, IT or relevant area
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, SQL
- Proficiency in Data Analysis and Database Management Systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle)
- Experience with API design principles, patterns, and protocols (e.g., REST, GraphQL)
- Knowledge of data formats, including JSON, XML, and CSV
- Familiarity with API security measures, such as OAuth, JWT, and encryption
- Experience with integration platforms, such as MuleSoft, Apigee, Microsoft Azure or AWS API Gateway
- Strong understanding of insurance industry standards and protocols (e.g., ACORD, DTCC, NAICS)
- Understanding business process, system architecture and the ability to translate business needs into technical requirements
