Principal Consultant- Loss Control
Location: Remote (Able to hire anywhere in USA)
Job Description
Professional Loss Control (PLC) is the property loss control division of Hartford Steam Boiler (HSB). PLC operates as a property loss control consulting firm to HSB, Munich Re and their clients. We also work with major property insurance carriers, and independently to commercial and industrial companies.
This position performs HPR type property loss control evaluation surveys at assigned client locations. Occupancies can vary from High Hazard (Oil & Gas, Power Generation, Manufacturing) to Commercial. The Consultant will:
- Inspect the location to gather and then analyze detailed information concerning construction, occupancy, protection and hazards in accordance with project service plan, industry standards, and NFPA guidelines.
- Interview site personnel,
- Evaluate the fire protection / loss prevention programs, etc.
- Provide property loss estimates based on client's or internal loss estimate criteria.
- Develop risk improvement recommendations based on the results of the site survey.
- Complete survey reports and share information with client and underwriters.
Approximately half of the workload will be account evaluations for underwriting of major international corporations and commercial enterprises based on review of outside documents and engineering reports.
Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree in Engineering or related field with 15+ years fire protection/property loss control experience (5 additional years of experience is required if only a technical AS degree instead of BS)
- Specific experience in property loss control
- CFPS certification and/or advanced degree is highly desired
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong organization and technical skills
- Strong documentation and interpersonal skills
- Good communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Good PC skills
- Time Management skills
- Demonstrated Project Management skills
- Ability to travel up to 50% of working time by car and/or air
- Ability to stand, walk, and climb stairs for up to 8 hours per day as needed. (May occasionally be required to climb ladders or crawl). If primarily devoted to project or personnel management, the focus will change to most time spent at a desk on the computer.
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures
Experience in Renewable Energy occupancies is a plus
Must be able to prepare and deliver training material for internal and external customers.
