Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled engineer who excels in a collaborative team environment and is adept at building strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders around the globe. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication, technical, and organizational skills, with the ability to effectively interact and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.

Please note that this position can be located anywhere in Canada, with regular office visits to our Toronto head office.

We’re looking for a Director, Risk Engineering. Could It Be You?
This role supports the underwriting process by providing technical evaluations, risk assessments, and loss estimations for industrial property risks. This position reports to the Head of Facultative and Corporate, Canada, with a matrix reporting relationship to the Head of Loss Control Engineering (LCE) Risk Engineering in Munich.

As part of the Facultative and Corporate unit, the primary focus of this position is on North American risks, primarily originating from our insurance and reinsurance underwriters within Canada or global teams writing North American business. As member of the global Risk Engineering team of Munich Re you will also be involved in the development of our international Risk Engineering guidelines, seminars, and underwriter consulting.

•    With your extensive knowledge in fire protection you will advise and support underwriters in technical risk assessments
•    With your industry experience you will conduct field surveys, prepare risk reports, and analyze how to mitigate risks
•    Evaluate external survey reports to update underwriting information and recommend risk improvements
•    Engage with brokers and clients on new and existing business opportunities
•    Provide training and technical support on industrial topics to internal and external customers
•    Contribute to internal risk engineering initiatives, such as developing standards and processes
•    Stay up-to-date on industry trends and developments to form opinions on emerging technical issues
•    Foster relationships within the Munich Re risk engineering community and participate in industry associations.

So are YOU our next Director, Risk Engineering? You are if you possess the following qualifications…
•    First and foremost, you will demonstrate strong leadership and achievement, a strong work ethic, enthusiasm towards change and a drive to make a difference. 
In addition, we are looking for the following qualifications: 
•    Bachelor of Engineering or Applied Science degree from an accredited university.
•    Current professional Engineering designation or in the final stages of qualification.
•    Minimum 5+ years work experience in property risk control / loss prevention field preferred
•    5-8 years with industrial risk experience in property risk control / loss prevention with insurance company or broker preferred
•    Professional experience in the industry is highly desirable
•    Continuing education via lunch and learn sessions through SFPE or other professional organizations.
•    Some exposure to machinery/equipment breakdown risk control is desirable.
•    Strong ability to analyze and evaluate technical processes
•    Self-motivated with the ability to manage conflicting priorities, multitasking and deliverables.
•    Proactive and efficient working style. 
•    Ability to adapt to various departmental needs, and flexibility of meeting stakeholders’ expectations.
•    Excellent written and oral communication skills including ability to communicate complex content in an easily understandable way to internal and external non-specialist audiences.
•    Outstanding presentation skills, able to speak at professional seminars, panels or workshops
•    Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
•    Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
•    Capable of leading large group discussions and presentations.
•    Ability to travel nationally and internationally; this role can be located anywhere in Canada but will require regular visits to the Toronto head office.
