Primary Objectives:

The Business Intelligence Analyst independently designs, develops, and delivers advanced analytics and data visualization solutions that support underwriting, claims, pricing, actuarial, and policy operations. The role applies strong BI, analytics, and data engineering capabilities to transform complex data into actionable insights that drive informed business decisions and measurable performance improvements.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and deploy advanced dashboards and analytical reports using Power BI, emphasizing data storytelling and actionable insights.

  • Function as a technical analytics resource within the Data & Analytics function, exercising independent judgment on matters of significance.

  • Ensure analytics initiatives deliver measurable business value aligned to stakeholder KPIs and strategic objectives.

  • Perform advanced analytics including segmentation, cohort, root-cause, impact, and statistical significance analysis.

  • Build, maintain, and optimize data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, MS Fabric and mixed data environments.

  • Translate complex technical outputs into clear insights and recommendations for business partners and senior leadership.

  • Support underwriting, pricing, actuarial, and policy teams with analytics and decision support.

  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve portfolio performance, operational efficiency, and analytics best practices.

  • Mentor other analysts and contribute to process, quality, and analytics maturity improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Information Sciences, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related fields

  • 5+ years of experience in business intelligence, data analytics, or data visualization roles

  • Experience delivering value-adding analytics solutions, ideally within P&C insurance or financial services

  • Strong awareness of insurance portfolio performance, underwriting rules, rating factors, and decision engines preferred

  • Master’s degree or professional insurance designation (e.g., CIP) is an asset

  • Intermediate to advanced experience designing, developing, and deploying Power BI dashboards, including DAX and Power Query

  • Intermediate to advanced experience with Python and/or R for analytics and data processing is an asset

  • Strong SQL skills, including database design, stored procedures, and analytical querying

  • Intermediate to advanced experience with ETL and data preparation processes across mixed environments

  • Intermediate Working knowledge of Azure data and analytics services, including Databricks

  • Intermediate to advanced Excel proficiency; familiarity with Microsoft Office tools for executive communication

  • Advanced analytical thinking, problem-solving, and attention to statistical rigor

  • Strong ability to communicate complex data insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Collaborative collaborator with the ability to work independently and take ownership

  • Curious, innovative mindset with openness to new analytical approaches and technologies

Our base salary range for this role is between $81,720 and $95,340 per year, plus an opportunity for an annual company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. The salary estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for candidates hired in this position. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have, and comparison to internal equity.

This role is located in our Toronto office on 390 Bay St, and we operate in a hybrid work model. This job posting is for an existing vacancy.
