Senior Communications Business Partner

The Senior Communications Business Partner (SCBP)  is a high-trust, mission-critical role with matrixed reporting to the CEO of American Modern Insurance Group (AMIG) and the Head of Marketing Communications, North America P&C . This structure enables the role to shape AMIG CEO communication priorities, drawing on Munich Re Group best practices, shared tools, and global standards, while ensuring effective execution of local AMIG strategies.  The SCBP role is a strategic partner to the CEO, responsible for defining, driving, and executing the communications strategy that advances AMIG's vision and competitive position.

The SCBP will serve as the CEO's primary writer, narrative architect, and communications strategist, translating AMIG's business priorities into compelling messages that resonate across all employees.

This individual will maintain a deep command of the insurance industry, especially personal lines, AMIG's inner workings, culture, and strategic direction, while ensuring alignment and compliance with Munich Re and Munich Re Specialty communication standards and remaining actively connected to the broader Munich Re Group.

The role demands absolute confidentiality and trust, independent, sound judgment, and the ability to operate with urgency at the most senior levels of the organization.

Responsibilities          

The SCBP is accountable for three interlocking responsibilities:

Strategic Communications Architecture

  • Develop the annual CEO communications strategy, mapped directly to AMIG's business objectives and Munich Re / Munich Re Specialty priorities
  • Build and maintain a living CEO communications strategy document that briefs the CEO before major engagements and aligns the broader leadership team on messaging
  • Partner with the CEO and Executive Management Board quarterly to pressure-test and evolve the messaging strategy as business conditions change
  • Conduct ongoing stakeholder mapping and audience analysis, ensuring the same core narrative is adapted appropriately among all employee segments. Identify gaps and develop a plan to close them
  • Identify gaps between AMIG's stated strategic priorities and its external reputation and develop a plan to close them

CEO Voice & Executive Content

  • Serve as the primary writer for all CEO communications: all-staff messages, town halls, strategic updates, leadership transition communications, catastrophe response, and cultural moments
  • Prepare the CEO for all high-stakes engagements: external speaking engagements, media interviews, board presentations, Munich Re / Munich Re Specialty leadership forums, and industry events
  • Develop and maintain a consistent, distinctive CEO voice and a defined point of view on industry trends including catastrophe risk, InsurTech, market affordability, and regulatory reform
  • Ensure message consistency across the C-suite: one voice, one strategy
  • Partner with HR and Operations to develop change management communications during organizational transitions or restructuring

Group Alignment & Stakeholder Integration

  • Maintain close, ongoing relationships with Munich Re Group Communications & Marketing colleagues to ensure coordination and alignment between AMIG's messaging with broader Munich Re Specialty and Munich Re Group communications objective & priorities
  • Maintain alignment with Group standards & guidelines, governance and processes, brand guidelines and media relations protocols
  • Fully dedicated to support AMIG’s CEO communication and embedded in the Global Com organization the role serve as the primary liaison between AMIG's CEO communications function and the broader Munich Re Group Communications network
  • Work closely with Group Communications to ensure smooth collaboration of joint projects and activities and secure consistency with Group Com standards, channels, tools, brand guidelines, and media protocol
  • Coordinate and align with Media Relations, Legal and Compliance on media engagements, press releases, PR activities, regulatory communications, company statements, and all communications critical to the reputation of AMIG and Munich Re Group

Key Responsibilities include:

Communications Strategy & Planning

  • Build and execute a comprehensive, annual CEO communications plan tied to AMIG's strategic and financial objectives
  • Develop and maintain a structured internal communications cadence aligned to business cycles (earnings, planning, cat season, industry events like WSIA etc.)
  • Provide input and insights to Marketing and Media teams to help identify  thought leadership opportunities to position AMIG and its expert leaders in relevant trade media (Insurance Journal, AM Best, Business Insurance) and at key industry events

Content Development & Executive Positioning

  • Draft high-quality written content across all formats: speeches, memos, talking points, internal video scripts, Q&A documents.
  • Produce polished briefing materials that prepare the CEO for any public or internal engagement
  • Write crisis communications with speed, precision, and alignment across Legal, Compliance, and Munich Re protocols

Cross-Functional Leadership & Collaboration

  • Build trusted working relationships with the CEO and members of the Executive Management Board
  • Partner with Finance to translate business performance into accessible, compelling narrative
  • Serve as a thought partner to AMIG's senior leadership team on communication-related strategic decisions

Qualifications

Successful candidates will possess the following skills/capabilities:       

Experience

  • 8–12 years of progressive communications experience, with a minimum of 4 years in executive or CEO-level communications
  • Background in P&C insurance, reinsurance, especially in personal lines preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience operating in a matrixed, multinational organization with parent company reporting structures
  • A strong portfolio showing range across internal messaging, executive speeches, external articles, crisis communications, and digital content.
  • Proven ability to manage communications through complex or sensitive situations (ie catastrophes, regulatory scrutiny, leadership transitions) with sound judgment and composure
  • Experience working directly with and earning the trust of C-suite executives

Skills & Capabilities

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills. Clear, crisp, and audience-calibrated
  • Strategic critical thinker with the ability to connect communications decisions to business outcomes
  • Strong instincts for what not to say: acute awareness of legal, regulatory, and reputational sensitivity
  • Deep comfort with financial statements, corporate performance metrics, and insurance industry dynamics
  • Ability to work with ambiguity, short deadlines, and competing priorities without sacrificing quality
  • Executive presence and the interpersonal credibility to challenge, advise, and influence senior leaders constructively
  • Absolute discretion and trust with confidential information
  • Technical Skills: Advanced skills in key Microsoft applications, including hands on management of Sharepoint platforms. Proficiency in HTML, CRM and/or Adobe InDesign welcome but not required.

The Company is open to considering candidates in numerous locations, including Princeton (NJ), New York (NY), Chicago (IL), Cincinnati (OH), or Munich (Germany). The salary range posted below reflects market variations across various locations. The offer will be adjusted per geography.

The base salary range anticipated for this position is $138,400 - $169,500, plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay.  In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO). 

The salary estimate is adjusted to reflect the varying market conditions across different locations, with the with the higher end being more aligned with the New York job market. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
